The Old Cannery

This is one of my favorite local places to go to. On top of being the weirdest furniture store EVER, it boasted this trip a sand sculpture front and center in it's parking lot. A pirate ship complete with scurvy sand pirates no less. What a kick! May I remind you we do not live very close to sandy beaches AT ALL? Anywhoo, since we were down south to visit the grandparents and we had a little extra time as a family I demanded we take Isaac to The Old Cannery.

Blake and Trin hadn't been since they were about five and two. That's CRAZY. I was hoping to get some ideas for dining tables/chairs, floor lamps, and rugs. Oh, and king-size bed frames too. Here are some of the yummies I saw.
First, this yummy piece. Can you just see one on each side of my fireplace with movies stashed in the bottom and pretties on top with more pretties on top-top???? I can! The color of wood might not be ideal but some of that will be changing anyway with a new table/chairs. The espresso coffee table and leather couch/chair will still be around however. Sigh. I love anything with glass keeping the dust off things. At $1,200 a pop this is for sure not happening soon.

Then there was this simple but potentially elegant king size bed frame ON SALE for under $400. Seriously considering this one as it would be a lovely counterpoint to all my wood furniture that is a medium honey/red tone and simple almost shaker style (NOT mission). I mean, having a matching EVERYTHING in my room is not my cup of tea so a different color frame would be nice.I would need a ton of pillows though because I'm dreaming of an upholstered one for reading in but worried about keeping the fabric clean from oils. The Divineys are an oily people my friends.

These people know how to set the scene! Beautiful silk flowers arranged with artful accessories and a gorgeous carousel horse, well who wouldn't want that in their home??? BTW there was an amazing piece of shelving by this that was all industrial metal frame (with racks like a professional kitchen has for baking sheets sort of?) with a gorgeous wood top and wood trays that you could move around for endless organizing of your kitchen or office or whatever lovelies?? Alas, this too was $1,200 which is much!
There were also a few amazing rugs that I wanted to roll up and tie to the van pronto, that is, if Jeremy hadn't been with me. . . . .

Now for why I would want to bring the kids. . .it has a complete candy store with ice cream and a little retro ice cream parlour/kitchen to sit and eat it. The kids went nuts! It has giant animated and talking stuffed animal heads of which the Buffalo is always my favorite. There is a personal memorabilia corner where the owner commemorates her father who opened the store or something like that - I was too busy napping on a wonderful leather chaise lounge. There is just outside the bathroom entrance a chicken coop where the chickens (covered in real feathers) cluck, blink, turn their heads, and tell the cheesiest chicken jokes you have ever heard! Too FUNNY.

There is a creepy miner mannequin that has some recorded saying that Isaac was NOT too sure about. But now to the best part and why I couldn't wait to take Isaac. The Trains! This store has train tracks suspended from the ceiling through one entire section of the warehouse. Not to mention that but in their kids furniture dept. (it's own section people) there is an awesome four sided miniature train track that meanders through a carnival scene, a logging scene, and two others I can't even remember. Also, there are like eight different fun kites hanging from the ceiling.

See what I mean? it doesn't look as cool in this picture but this is a really cool dragon kite.
To anyone who has train loving children that haven't heard about The Old Cannery I officially offer this invitation. Come see the trains! If you are on the fence about driving a whole FORTY minutes south I will just tease you with a few pics of the choo choo fun!

my favorite is this circus/carnival scene
this is a little caboose you can take about  four steps up into that gets you
right close to the trains going by
 the view from the "caboose"
 how adorable is this??
gak, so hard to catch them not moving, (the children not the trains)
fun footprints all over for the kids to follow
here comes the train! hmm, should have zoomed in on this. just trust me, so much fun.

could have stayed here for hours.
I mean me, not Isaac. =)
